December 1st, 2025: We hereby announce the withdrawal of our Eclipse optical handheld refractometer from production. Our Eclipse refractometer can trace its history right back to the very first “Pocket refractometer” developed by Bellingham + Stanley in 1935 as the world’s first handheld refractometer for measuring sugar concentration in the cane fields. The Eclipse is superseded by our OPTi® digital handheld refractometer.

The OPTi refractometer offers digital readout measured result and temperature, application-specific temperature compensation, a library of 50 industry recognised scales like RI, Brix, glycol percent etc., as well as offering other features including a programmable delay for sample stabilisation and error reporting for high ambient and out of range situations.
The OPTi has an IP65 rated ergonomic case that fits comfortably in hand or pocket.
Please note, the OPTi refractometer is not suitable for measuring “micro” sample volumes and so is not a suitable replacement for the Eclipse Low Volume models used for measuring nectar.
